Main Deck Railing Systems use, a solid cellular PVC which has a small closed cell micro structure. Moisture cycling is a main reason for paint failure on wood. Since Main Deck railings do not absorb moisture, paints last longer on Main Deck railing products than wood.
Main Deck improves the paint bond to the cellular pvc by machining all of our railing parts. This process opens the surface cells permitting acrylic paint to penetrate and permanently bond into the open cells of the substrate. The surface has a texture equivalent to 220 grit sand paper. This texture is perfect to accept a primer and finish coat of 100% Acrylic paint leaving a smooth surface that will clean easily and last for years to come.
PAINT CAN LAST UP TO 25 YEARS!
When painted according to paint manufacturer's instruction the finish will be durable and can last the full life of the warranty (up to twenty-five years). At that point, simply power wash your railings to remove all dirt and any oxidized paint and paint again to last another 25 years.
Paint life will vary based on environmental conditions. Be sure to use high quality 100% acrylic paint.
Key Points:
- Main Deck products do not require paint for protection, but may be painted to achieve a custom color. If not painted; more frequent cleaning will be required.
- Use a 100% acrylic latex paint with a Light Reflective Value (LRV) of 55 or higher.
- For darker colors below (LRV) of 55 use Sherwin Williams Superpaint® with vinyl safe technology.
- Follow the paint manufacturer's recommendations to apply.
- No special surface preparations are required prior to painting-just ensure the surfaces are clean and dry.
